Functional Aspects:Alpha-actinin is a cytoskeletal protein located in the Z band/disc region of skeletal muscle where it cross-links with F-actin. The presence of alpha-actinin can be related to a condition known as congenital nemaline myopathy. This antibody does not recognize alpha actinin in type IIa or IIb human muscle fibers, but will help detect this protein in type 1 muscle fibers.
