Catalog Number:T-104-2 CAS Number:4697-14-7; 61177-45-5 DESCRIPTION The combination of ticarcillin and clavulanate potassium provides improved efficacy against a variety of bacterial infections that can lead to urinary tract infections, bone and joint infections, stomach infections, and skin infections. Ticarcillin belongs to the penicillin class. It inhibits cell wall synthesis by preventing peptidoglycan cross-linking, and eventually results in cell death. It is, however, susceptible to ß-lactamases, and is therefore used with clavulanate potassium, which is an inhibitor of ß-lactamases. There is high activity seen against gram-negative bacteria and the combination is effective against resistant Agrobacterium strains.
