Functional Aspects: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is an opportunistic pathogen that infects lung, kidney, gut and other organs in immunologically immature individuals or in immunosuppressed patients. An active CMV infection time course in immunosuppressed individuals is characterized by a period of several weeks of pp65 antigenemia that correlates with viral replication, before the onset of clinical symptoms. This pool of 2 antibodies will detect the pp65 antigen in tissues and cytospins. |
