性状描述：，外观为桔红色针状结晶熔点204-205℃。溶于水和醇，不溶于丙酮、苯、氯仿、乙醚。
由松链丝菌浅灰色变株(Str.Peucetius var.Caesius)的培养液提取而得。本品化学结构与柔红霉素类似，因此可以由柔红霉素化学转化而制得。目前已可化学全合成。
药理作用：可穿透进入细胞与肿瘤细胞ＤＮＡ交叉，联结，抑制ＤＮＡ复制，并阻断ＲＮＡ聚合酶的作用，抑制ＲＮＡ的合成；其细胞毒作用与自由基形成，与肿瘤细胞膜结合和破快细胞膜有关。
适应症： 用于治疗急性淋巴细胞白血病、急性粒细胞性白血病、霍奇金病和非霍奇金病淋巴瘤、乳腺癌、肺癌、卵巢癌、软组织肉瘤、成骨肉瘤、横纹肌肉瘤、肾母细胞瘤、神经母细胞瘤、膀胱瘤、甲状腺瘤、绒毛膜上皮癌、前列腺癌、睾丸癌、胃癌、肝癌等。
